POTC 2, 3 Movie Review

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN

At World’s End:
OMG! This movie blows everything else pretty much out of the water (no pun intended). Wow! **Also, very much like its prequels, this movie is a CHARACTER movie, meaning it will only end with the character arcs, which probably explains to most why it feels a little long. Keira Knightley did a great job as a very strong female character, and Johnny Depp did an Oscar-deserving performance with Sparrow this time, I don't care what anyone thinks. He has placed brilliant new little nuances in jack Sparrow that you didn't quite catch before in the prequels. Barbossa's character evolution was a bit puzzling, I'll admit, because some of the things he does is a complete 180 of how he behaved in the 1st film, but oh well. Another brilliant script with brilliant top-notch execution everywhere, especially for the special effects, and ESPECIALLY with Hans Zimmer's score (OMG!!!!!!!). A real classic, not only helping to redefine the Pirate-movie genre, but will also help to redefine filmmaking (especially third parts) as we know it. A true classic, much like its prequels.

Dead Man’s Chest:
This second part in the trilogy is still brilliant, but suffers because it is the second part, let's face it. When you're at the first film, everyone is excited because you discover a new world and new characters, and studios have a tendency of going gigantic on the third, so the second parts have a tendency of slipping through the cracks. FANTASTIC special effects though, I don't care what anyone says. John Knoll, you and your team ROCK! The rest is well executed as well, and the Elliot-Rossio team have continued to redefine the pirate genre with another spectacular script. A job well done!

"Dragonheart" Movie Review

DRAGONHEART

Brilliantly executed, though badly advertised. Dennis Quaid and Sean Connery were excellent in this movie. I can't see anybody else in Quaid's part (very much his Jack Sparrow), and Connery's Draco has a good heart and soul, and the visual effetcs/special effects were AMAZING! A brilliant script, with a good sense of humour. An undeniable CLASSIC in my book. (Please try not to compare the effects of the day to our effects of nowadays; this was made before Shrek and Spirit, and it's dogun good for it's time, if you ask any industry professional).

"The Dark Knight" Movie Review

THE DARK KNIGHT

Quite an impactful film, as dark as it's title, but with great film and sound editing, and sound mixing! The casting was superb here, and Bale and Ledger just knocked it out of the ball park with great ease. Worth seeing in theatres, it keeps you on your toes and makes you wonder how the story ends. A fabulous script. Heath Ledger's Joker is the scariest bad guy ever, a truly memorable character through his portrayal, much like Johnny Depp w/ Jack Sparrow. Joker is unpredictable, funny, charming, yet insanely lethal, and flying off the bat at anything (no pun intended (baseball bat, bat, batman? [sarcastically:] ha, ha, hilarious). My first Batman movie ever, and made me want to go see Bale's first. A job very well done.

Can't wait for the 3rd and final instalment of the Bale/Nolan team.

"Gilmore girls" (2000-2007)

GILMORE GIRLS

7 seasons, from 2000 – 2007.

Stars: Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Edward Herrman, Yanic Truesdale, and Melissa McCarthy.

Tagline (according to IMDb.com): Life’s short. Talk fast.

Emmy-winning series, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino.

The series follows Lorelai Victoria Gilmore, single mother of Lorelai “Rory” Leigh Gilmore, whom she had at age 16.

After having Rory, Lorelai escapes her controlling mother and father by going to the small (however fictional) town of Stars Hollow, where she becomes a maid for the local inn, Independence Inn. 16 years later, she runs the inn.

The bigger storylines of the show are:
·      The relationship between Lorelai and her parents,
·      Lorelai and Rory’s relationship,
·      Lorelai and Luke’s relationship,
·      Lorelai’s love life in general,
·      Rory’s education,
·      Lorelai opening and maintaining her own inn,
·      And, of course, Rory’s love life.

The series is full of quirky characters that are part of small town charm as it is.

The series is full of cultural references.

The complete series DVD box set contains:
  •        The full series, of course,
  •      Visual episode guide,
  •     Complete guide to Gilmore-isms, to understand their cultural references, which can be at times a bit obscure.

Gilmore girls is a must-have, an absolute classic.

Harper spends more then $50 million (CAN) without the proper approval... (Apr 12th 2011)

Photo credit: Michael De Adder, published in the April 12th, 2011 "Ottawa Metro".

"The Harper government misinformed Parliament to win approval for a $50 million G8 fund that lavished money on dubious projects in a Conservative riding, the auditor general has concluded.

And she suggests the process by which the funding was approved may have been illegal.

The findings are contained in the draft of a confidential report Sheila Fraser was to have tabled in Parliament on April 5. The report analyzed the $ 1-billion cost of staging last June's G8 summit in Ontario cottage country and a subsequent  gathering of G20 leaders in downtown Toronto.*

It was put on ice when the Harper government was defeated and is not due to be released until sometime [AFTER] the May 2 election. However, a Jan. 13 draft of the chapter on the G8 legacy infrastructure fund was obtained  by a supporter of an opposition party and shown to The Canadian Press". - The Canadian Press, April 11th 2011 (re-published in "Ottawa Metro" April 12th 2011).

*Including the infamous '$ 2 million fake lake'.

Federal Liberal Party leader Michael Ignatieff has asked that the report be released  prior to the May 2nd election. What do you think?

'Harper's government' has made many illegal and embarrassing actions since they have been in power since 2006 (not being present for G8 & G20 pictures in 2008, etc.), or, to be fair, Harper was the one who did most of these things himself...

'Conservatives are better for the economy'? After reading the article above, what do you think?
